TUPI, SOUTH COTABATO — Reaffirming their shared dedication to environmental conservation and watershed protection, a Tree Growing Activity was successfully conducted at Barangay Acmonan, Tupi, South Cotabato on February 19, 2026.

The reforestation effort took place within the critical watershed area of the Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape (MMPL), bringing together corporate volunteers, local government personnel, and military forces to safeguard vital water sources.

Protecting the Mt. Matutum Watershed

Volunteers planted a total of 300 hills of bamboo and endemic forest tree species, comprising:

  • 200 hills of Iron Bamboo — Planted for rapid root binding, soil stabilization, and riverbank protection.
  • 100 hills of Lawaan — Endemic hardwood trees planted to restore indigenous canopy coverage and enhance biodiversity.

The initiative focused on preventing soil erosion, increasing groundwater retention, and supporting the long-term ecological health of the Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape.

“Conserving our watersheds requires active, hands-on collaboration across all sectors. By planting native trees and bamboo today, we are protecting our water resources and building a more resilient ecosystem for South Cotabato.”
