TAGUM CITY, DAVAO DEL NORTE — Dedicated to environmental protection and climate resilience, a mangrove tree planting activity was successfully conducted at the Hijo Mangrove Protected Area in Tagum City.
The coastal rehabilitation initiative was made possible through a multi-sectoral collaboration between Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc. (KDFI), Dole Philippines – Stanfilco Division, Hijo Resources Corporation, and its environmental and social sustainability arm, The Trinity Project.
Restoring Critical Coastal Ecosystems
The tree planting drive brought together partners and community volunteers united by a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
Mangrove forests play a vital role in safeguarding coastal communities and marine ecosystems:
- Natural Coastal Protection: Act as living barriers against storm surges, high tides, and coastal erosion.
- Marine Biodiversity: Provide critical nursery habitats and shelter for diverse marine life.
- Carbon Sequestration: Capture and store significant amounts of blue carbon, aiding long-term climate change mitigation efforts.
“Planting mangroves restores a crucial ecosystem and invests in the long-term safety and sustainability of our coastal areas. Together, we are growing hope, one mangrove at a time.”
