The community of Barangay Magatos in Asuncion, Davao del Norte marked a significant milestone with the official turnover of the newly constructed Agricultural Bagsakan Center, a facility envisioned to serve as a hub for agricultural trade, post-harvest activities, and livelihood support for local farmers. This landmark project forms part of Project FARMEr, funded by BPI Foundation and Dole Philippines–Stanfilco Division, and implemented through the Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc. (KDFI).
The construction of the Agricultural Bagsakan Center represents a strong model of multi-sectoral collaboration aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and community resilience. The physical building was constructed in partnership with the 534th Engineering “Pacesetter” Battalion of the Philippine Army, while site preparation works were carried out by the Municipal Engineering Office of the Municipality of Asuncion. This joint effort reflects the spirit of unity and cooperation between the public and private sectors, the military, and local government units—all working together to uplift the agricultural community.
The turnover ceremony gathered an impressive roster of representatives from various organizations and institutions. Attending the event were officials and personnel from the 52nd Engineering Brigade of the Philippine Army, 60th Infantry “Mediator” Battalion, 534th Engineering “Pacesetter” Battalion, the Mayor’s Office of the Municipality of Asuncion, Municipal Engineering Office, Municipal Agricultural Office, Dole Philippines Stanfilco Division, Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc., and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Barangay Magatos. Their presence underscored the shared commitment to sustainable agricultural development and rural progress.
The program commenced with the blessing of the Agricultural Bagsakan Center led by Rev. Fr. Aries Infiesto, symbolizing hope and prosperity for the farmers and residents who will benefit from the facility. This was followed by the Opening Remarks from Engr. Lilibeth Ruth V. Cuajao, who emphasized the importance of partnerships and community participation in ensuring the success and sustainability of projects like this.
The event also featured messages of inspiration and gratitude from several key figures. Hon. Atty. Charry Dayaday, the Mayor of Asuncion, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to all the partners for their unwavering support and emphasized the local government’s commitment to continue strengthening agricultural initiatives in the municipality. EnP. Jobe C. Tubigon, Executive Director of Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc., highlighted the organization’s mission to empower communities through livelihood and infrastructure development, recognizing the project as a tangible expression of that mission.
Representatives from the Philippine Army also shared their insights and support for the endeavor. Lieutenant Kyle Santos of the 60th Infantry Battalion acknowledged the project as an example of the military’s peace and development efforts, while Brigadier General Eduardo F. Liboon of the 52nd Engineering Brigade commended the collaborative approach that made the construction possible, reiterating the Army’s readiness to support similar initiatives that benefit rural communities.
Adding to the celebration, Mr. Wilfred Oville Jr., CSR/EE Manager of Dole Stanfilco and Board of Trustee Member of KDFI, delivered a message on behalf of the project’s funders. He emphasized that the Agricultural Bagsakan Center is more than just a structure—it represents the commitment of Dole and BPI Foundation to improving the lives of farmers by providing them with access to proper infrastructure, fair trade opportunities, and inclusive growth.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Mr. John F. Paparon, Head of the Municipal Agricultural Office of Asuncion, who reaffirmed the municipal government’s dedication to support local farmers in optimizing the use of the facility. The event ended with a message of gratitude and unity from Punong Barangay Emiliano Rabe of Barangay Magatos, who expressed the community’s deep appreciation to all partners involved and vowed to ensure that the Agricultural Bagsakan Center will be properly managed and maintained for the benefit of local farmers and the barangay at large.
